Introducing Basalt’s Clinical Advisory Board

Post-acute care like long-term care, behavioral health, skilled nursing, is some of the most operationally complex corners of healthcare. The team building for it should reflect that.

We want the people who know these patients, these systems, and the policy and payment structures that shape where they end up to sit upstream of the product.

Today, we’re proud to announce Basalt's Clinical Advisory Board.

Shantanu Nundy, MD, MBA — former EVP & Chief Health Officer at Accolade, supporting 10M+ members. Advisor to FDA and World Bank. Previously led nonprofit arm of the Human Diagnosis Project, which pioneered the use of collective intelligence in medicine. Practicing primary care physician and hospitalist in Washington, D.C.

Suresh Balu, MS, MBA — Associate Dean for Innovation at Duke School of Medicine and Program Director of the Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI), one of the country's most rigorous testbeds for deploying AI inside a real health system. Prior career spanning management consulting, venture capital, and entrepreneurship. Named inventor on 20+ patents.

Kaeli Yuen, MD — Acting Director of the VA's Office of the Chief AI Officer. Former White House Presidential Innovation Fellow. Healthcare product leader with prior roles at Ambience Healthcare, Accolade, Curai, The Human Diagnosis Project, and Akido Labs. Few people have shipped clinical AI across both the public and private sectors at this depth.

Kavita Patel, MD — CEO and founder of Common Place Health and Professor or Medicine at Stanford University. Former White House Policy Director. Advises healthcare companies through NEA. Two decades at the intersection of clinical delivery and the payment decisions that shape where patients end up.

Lynn T. Simon, MD, MBA — Former President of Healthcare Innovation and CMO at Community Health Systems where she deployed AI-driven care programs at scale. She currently serves on the Board of ForeFront Dermatology, is a Board Observer for Cadence and a Senior Advisor for 25mHealth. Few people have more firsthand operational experience with what actually happens to patients between acute and post-acute care.

With this group, Basalt will continue to build a product exceeding the expectations of the clinicians, operators, and patients who have too often been an afterthought in healthcare software. It’s an honor to spend time together and the Basalt team is grateful beyond words for their guidance.

More to come.
