The basics

About Basalt

What does Basalt do?
Basalt reads incoming referral packets the moment they arrive, checks them against your facility admission criteria, and surfaces every finding as red, yellow, or green with a citation to its source. Your team decides faster, with the evidence in front of them.
Who is Basalt for?
Post-acute operators and admissions teams, across behavioral health, skilled nursing, long-term care, and rehab. It is built for the people who read referrals and decide whether a patient is the right fit for a bed.
Does Basalt make the admission decision?
No. Basalt prepares evidence; the clinician makes decisions. Every finding links to the line in the record it came from, so a reviewer can verify in one click and sign off with confidence.
What kinds of documents can it read?
Faxed PDFs, scanned images, photographs, and electronic records. Format does not block a decision; a 12-page packet and a 120-page packet both come back in minutes.
Fit & workflow

Using Basalt

Does it use our admission criteria or a generic checklist?
Yours. Basalt encodes your criteria by unit and by payer and checks each referral against them, so a green here means a yes for your facility.
How does Basalt help with authorization?
It reuses the same sourced evidence to support prior authorization, concurrent reviews, and appeals, assembling the medical-necessity documentation payers ask for, each fact cited.
How long does it take to get started?
Most single facilities are live in weeks, not months. Onboarding includes encoding your criteria and connecting your intake channels. Groups roll out site by site.
Does Basalt replace our intake staff?
No. It removes the manual reading in front of the decision, so the same team can handle more referrals faster, without adding headcount.
Security

Data & compliance

Is Basalt HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Basalt is built HIPAA-first and signs a Business Associate Agreement with every customer. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is least-privilege and logged. See our security overview.
How is patient data protected?
The product is designed around data minimization; it surfaces what a reviewer needs and nothing more, and logs reference an internal identifier rather than a name.
Can you support our security review?
Yes. We provide documentation for procurement and will walk your team through our controls. Formal attestations are available under NDA.
